Surrey mayor Dianne Watts is in the news again (big surprise) demanding a drug court for Surrey. She's totally pissed about the time it takes to put one together and is tired of waiting for her turn. Mayor Watts failed to inform anyone when she received her medical degree. She never misses an opportunity to shoot from the lip about drug issues and drug policy but I'm still waiting for her to say something that makes sense. If memory serves, she managed a European vacation out of her "quest" for knowledge on the issue but she failed to look at any of the harm reduction measures, restricting her trip to the places with harsh facilities that encouraged mandatory treatment. I've tried to connect with Ms.Watts to send along some statistics on the success rates of forced treatment but she's never responded. She's another of these "experts" that uses selective study to reach conclusions she made long before. Most of these do-gooders mean well. I don't get that impression from Dianne Watts. We did the drug court thing in the late '60s. Even went to a night court system. That was back in the day when a quarter of pot got you pen time. Ah! The old days. I sure don't miss them. It breaks my heart to see the insane sentencing that goes on south of the border.
